Camps Bay Activities

Camps Bay is one of the most scenic places to base yourself in Cape Town, South Africa. With one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cape and a backdrop of the Twelve Apostles Camps Bay is rightfully one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mother City. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain, Camps Bay offers a large variety of outdoor activities.

Beaches

Camps Bay main beach attracts everyone who loves the sand and the sea. Camps Bay is a blue flag beach that is shaded by tall palm trees. The beach promenade is a popular spot see and be seen. Enjoy a cocktail or a cappuccino by the sea or indulge in delicious Mediterranean cuisine as the sun turns the horizon into shades of red and orange.

Just around the corner of Camps Bay are the four Clifton beaches. All of which are sheltered by large boulders and are ideal for sunbathing or a family outing. The downside of the Atlantic beaches is that the water is freezing cold, so swimming here is only for the fearless.

Walking around Camps Bay

Everyone likes walks by the sea and Camps bay is one of the best places to do it. The area around Camps Bay has several options. For those, who want an elevated view of the Atlantic Seaboard, Table Bay, the city bowl and Table Mountain, a hike up Lion’s head is a good option. The trail circles up the mountain for about an hour and only has a few steeper parts towards the end.

Walking north from Camps Bay you will come past the Cliftons and eventually get to the Sea Point Promenade. After hours this stretch right by the sea gets populated with Capetonians getting their exercise by walking or running.

An easy walk that takes you along the slopes of the Twelve Apostles is the Pipe Track. Use the first car park when you turn off to the cable station and walk to the other side of the mountain. An easy walk takes you along old water pipes with a bird’s eye view of Camps Bay.
