Things to Do in Observatory
If you are coming to Cape Town Observatory is a great place to base yourself. ‘Obz’ is close proximity to the city centre and the Simon’s Town railway line. With many trendy bars and restaurants Observatory is also a great place to meet other travellers and locals.
Nightlife
Observatory’s nightlife has a distinctly bohemian flair. Lower Main Road has vibrant bars and charming cafés where you can chat and drink the night away. The density of students, travellers and arty individuals make for an interesting crowd. Live music, poetry readings and art galleries will fill up your evening schedule and since it’s all in the neighbourhood transport isn’t a problem either.
Rock Climbing and Yoga in ‘Obz’
If you are looking for a fun way to get fit, head over to the City Rock climbing gym on Collingwood Road. Rock climbing requires a combination of strength, stamina and strategy to work your way up the climbing walls. The climbing takes place in an absolutely safe environment, but if heights are not your favourite, try one of the yoga classes in the same building. Yoga not only complements rock climbing but will generally benefit your fitness, health and well-being.
Eateries
‘Obz’ has loads of nice restaurants. Just take a stroll down Lower Main and make your pick. If you like a pub kinda vibe and enjoy a burger and a beer, head for Trench Town. This Jamaican joint has are large outdoor area, reggae tunes and tasty burgers as well as more traditional Jamaican cuisine.
For Sushi, 1890 House is the place to go. A charmingly unpretentious restaurant serves affordable, but delicious Sushi from the conveyer belt.
