Cape Town Sights

Table Mountain is so closely associated with Cape Town – it’s hard to find a postcard without the characteristic silhouette. Most visitors have the placed the flat-topped mountain firmly on their agenda and indeed – the views form the plateau are breathtaking. The cable car to the top of Table Mountain is very popular with visitors, but the crowds and the prices leave a bit of a stale aftertaste. However if you are reasonably fit, the 2 hour hike up Platteklip Gorge is a great thing to do in the morning. Make sure to take enough water, a warm top and reasonable sturdy shoes. The views from Table Mountain will also give you a good idea of Cape Town’s and the peninsula’s geography.

Another beloved feature of the Mother City is that you are never far from the ocean. Scenic coastal drives, boat tours, surfing lessons, shark cage diving or just a day at the beach are all great ways to experience our beautiful coastline.

A rainy day isn’t necessarily bad news in Cape Town. The V&A Waterfront is a touristic shopping district that is integrated to the harbour. Here you can easily spend a day shopping a just strolling on the pier. At the Waterfront you will also find craft market and the Two Oceans Aquarium, both of which are well worth visiting.

If you are interested in Cape Town’s and South Africa’s history, you will love the District Six Museum. The museum dedicates itself to issues of forced removal and presents good mix of historic facts and the stories of the individuals that suffered under the apartheid regime.
